South Africa. Light bulb exchange week.
Taking part on saving the planet!
SRC environmental sub- committee received at least 300 hundred CFLs from Eskom (A South African electricity Supply Company). In a week from 19th – 23rd October 2009. CFLs were swapped with normal conventional light bulbs. Students passing through the table and who were interested in knowing more about the facts of CFLs brought their light bulbs and got swapped over.
At least more than half of the bulbs were exchanged, the mission kept on rolling even after that week , for the remaining CFLs that students were interested in exchanging were kept at the office and anyone would just pop in and get his/her light bulb exchanged.
Appropriate information was taken from the one bringing the light bulb, and accurate bulbs were exchanged accordingly.
CFL It’s short for Compact Fluorescent Lamp.
· Uses up to 75% LESS energy than a traditional incandescent bulb. cost a bit more but they can save you money by reducing your energy usage and, therefore, your energy bills.
· Last longer ( 10 times more than the normal bulb )
Anyone can take part on campus or at work place assisting on any global initiatives of saving energy.
